“As Time Goes By”

This garden represents the same suburban garden twenty five years on.

The 1985 garden is relatively high maintenance, with clipped edges to the central lawn, slab stepping stones leading to a small paved area in front of the tool shed; a patio next to the house; a pond with paved edging; a brick built barbeque on the patio, and flower borders edging the grass. The planting consists mainly of bedding and herbaceous perennials with little winter interest.

The 2010 garden has ethically sourced sandstone paving, a patio next to house, leading on between two ponds to a sitting area, with a raised planting bed to one side and behind, and a flower bed with scented planting to the other side; a shed with a living roof; a small vegetable plot, and a slate chipping path leading to the shed. The planting includes evergreen shrubs, perennials, grasses, lavender to attract bees for pollination and to provide scent, fruit, vegetables and herbs. A relaxing, productive space in which to relax and escape from the pressures of twenty first century living.
